Another big turnout for the 14th annual Fish for Sight Tournament
on Truman Lake as 283 teams loaded the waters around
Sterett Creek
Marina. The Lions supplied dinner and music the night
before the tournament and a little heads up on the fishing was given
by Steve Blake, a top local guide out of the marina. On tournament day
another big feast for all the teams and their families was provided
along with drinks and music after the weigh-in. A large selection was
on hand for the silent and oral auction not to mention all the free
stuff given away. This is one of, if not the best run Charity
Tournaments around. If you haven’t had the opportunity to fish this
one mark it on your calendar for next year.
I would like to apologize to all those that I interviewed during
the weigh-in, I seemed to have lost my notebook. I hung over to fish
the Laborers Gun Coalition Tournament on Sunday and after covering
that tournament I somehow lost it on my way to the Lake of The Ozarks
for another tournament. Below are all the pictures that were taken.
The Ones that I remembered I placed what they won. (editors note: if

1st Place went to the team of Jay Hulsey and Kyle
Hulsey of Bourbon, MO. They weighed in a 5 fish limit that pushed the
scales down to16.93 pounds and won a $10,000 17.5 ft. Nitro Bass
Boat. They continued to catch fish and win money in a very productive
year of fishing. Jay and Kyle bested a huge field of 283 teams to
post this victory. The Hulseys succeeded in bringing in a very
respectable bag of fish while most of the field struggled. While the
Hulseys boated 20 keepers on an all day bite, only 91 teams out of the
field were able to weigh in a keeper. Jay and Kyle figured out a
strong jig and tube bite that related to flats, trees, and nearby deep
water or channel swings. All the keepers they boated were in 2-4 feet
of stained water up the Pomme arms and in the Osage in the first 10
miles above where the Osage and the Pomme arms split. In general the
spots they fished had water in the 62-63 degree range with a couple of
spots warming to 68 degrees. Most of the spots they caught their fish
were pockets off the main lake with standing timber or channel banks
with pole timber. A few of the fish were relating to timber in
shallow water on the flats opposite of a channel swing. Jay and Kyle
threw light jigs tipped with green pumpkin trailers. The jigs were
brown in color and weighed 1/4 ounce and 5/16 ounce and were tipped
with the 3 1/2 inch Bass Pro Incredible Craw in the green pumpkin
color. The 5/16 ounce jig was an
Eakin's Jig by
Jewel Baits and the 1/4 ounce jig was a home made jig given to them by
a fellow angler. The Hulseys experimented throughout the day with
different colored jigs and trailers and different size trailers trying
to find a big bite but found that the above combination was what the
fish wanted. The next best bait other than a jig that boated keepers
was a 4/1/2 inch Bass Pro Black Neon Tube Texas-rigged with a light
sinker on a 5/0 Big Bite Mustad hook. They threw these light baits on
C-4 Garcia reel spooled with 15 lb. Vanish line and seated on a 6' 6"
Bass Pro Qualifer, medium heavy rod.
